"What is your leadership style?”
This question comes up quite often and I never feel quite satisfied when I answer it.  I think because I have never seen my leadership style from the other side.  So I asked some of the best employees I’ve ever had the privilege of working with how they would answer that question about me.  Click on their pictures and learn how they have served others throughout their amazing careers.

Pat is a servant leader. He sets expectations, gives direction, then gets out of the way.
— Rodney Baumgart, VP of Customer Experience at Stratice Healthcare

Pat is a coach and mentor. He supports his team and gives them the skills needed to achieve optimal results. He leads by example, communicates clearly and allows open dialogue about any opportunities for improvement. Pat gives constructive feedback, providing a “safe” atmosphere in which to voice any concerns.
— Kirsten Clark

Pat’s style consists high-task and high-relationship. He maintains an effective interpersonal relationship with people resulting in an ongoing and growing network. Pat leads by positive example and endeavors to foster a team environment in which all team members can reach their highest potential, both as team members and as people.
— Ryan Claxton

Pat is an inspiring, collaborative, servant leader.
— Brooke Crosley, President at Crosley, Inc.

When faced with situations Pat knows the strengths of the team members and gives feedback on the best way to tackle the situation...ultimately he makes the decision, but it is as a result of his trust and confidence in the team. Pat has great insight into each members strengths and opportunities and he uses that to develop them and to be successful. Where you stand with him is never a guess. Pat sets expectations and each member knows what those are and strives to work toward those goals and beyond.
— Gretchen Easton

Pat’s leadership style is unique...I think of him as an initiator, innovator and an originator. I loved working for Pat because he listened. If I felt a decision did not go the way it should, he would listen. He would give me the opportunity to try ideas, so he was an enabler as well. Pat is extremely creative. It was great going to him for ideas.
— Becky Foxx

Pat challenged me to be creative and made me realize that there are different ways to get the same result; the route I took depended on the audience. There was also a strong sense of respect and admiration among those of who were fortunate enough to work with him. Pat’s style is one of high-integrity, professionalism, drive and motivation. Most importantly, he is kind.
— Susan Gilbert

Pat’s style promotes the growth of employees through coaching. His coaching skill involves leveraging employee communication styles, insights and relationships. Pat combines those with great strategy to effect positive change for both the organization and the team.
— Thalia Hammond

Pat’s natural leadership style is a “coaching” style. However, when the situation or the person calls for a different style in order to be effective, he adjusts. I think this is normal for a good leader and actually a vital requirement to lead successfully. Not every situation calls for the same style and not everyone will or can adjust their style...and this is what makes Pat so effective.
